The Assessment 2024 1080p.10Bit Vudu
In a near future where parenthood is strictly controlled, a couple’s seven-day evaluation of their child’s rights turns into a psychological nightmare. There are 2 Rice University Easter eggs. The Rating is a sci-fi drama starring Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel as Mia and Aryan. For couples who want to have a child in the future, an evaluator (Alicia Viklander) administers a 7-day test that allows them to pass the test and if they don’t, they are given a baby as a gift, but the parents-to-be find out that it’s harder than they expected. I wasn’t really expecting much in terms of plot, but I think it’s brilliantly done. The film follows a 1-7 day format, each one as different and engaging as the next. To be honest, I was expecting it to reuse previous sci-fi tropes, but I have to say, it’s so original and unexpected that I think it’s really well done! It’s so well portrayed that everything is connected and what the couple has to do that could be the most likely reason for having a child in a climate-changed world. The performances don’t disappoint, Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel were so good that they could probably have been left alone with a completely different story and it would have been just as compelling. But Alicia Viklander is also very good, and honestly, she’s very good in the whole sci-fi genre, and it was nice to see her here. Everyone just did their best and I really appreciate if the film isn’t as creative as the CGI. However, the film does get graphic at times with Alika’s sex and disturbing interactions. Wicklander’s character acting like a child in an older woman’s body gave me a Poor People vibe. But it doesn’t really matter and is essential to the plot, but it’s definitely aimed at an older audience and I can definitely imagine it being an easy R or 18 in the UK if anyone cares. Overall, while some of the characters don’t have much of a resolved storyline, they are so well-crafted and executed that it’s hard to find fault with the review. You should definitely go and see it when it comes out in mid-2025. I highly recommend this wonderful and creative work of art when it hits theaters. Grade: A+ London Film Festival, October 19.
