Edsel Dope, Interview ‘Blood Money Part Zer0’ + the Future of Dope

We felt betrayed by our brother all in our unique ways/disagreements. Sadly we all don’t get to mend those broken fences until it’s too late, but that doesn’t mean that’s the way feelings are left. There was no rampant use of prescription drugs during the hay day of Static-X.

TURNSTILE Announces US Tour With SPEED, JANE REMOVER & More

However, in his recent interview with Blabbermouth, Edsel technically admitted to being the frontman without fully admitting it. Static-X reformed in 2018 with the mysterious Xer0 fronting the band. Rumors began to swirl that Xer0 was actually Dope frontman Edsel Dope, which have since been confirmed and discussed by Dope himself. Despite everyone knowing the identity of Xer0, Dope wife edsel dope still doesn’t want to be known as the guy who fronts Static-X. On January 25, 2023, Dope released the “Dive” EP, featuring the previously released singles.

The fact that Tony is including the original lineup is showing he’s trying to be classy about it. If it was a cash grab he could have easily hired cheaper musicians to pocket as much $ as possible. Instead he’s bringing in all the guys who worked on Static-X as well as guys from other bands and is sharing this with everyone.

We all wanted to be there for the Memorial and to do it right. After this happened Wayne lost a lot of money and upset promoters after pulling out of the tour. With this in mind rumblings of lower guarantees started happening and Wayne wanted to change the financial agreements to use the name. Wayne tried to lie to Tony about why he wanted to change the terms of what Wayne had already agreed to and cut Tony out of what he was owed.

  • Pretty fucked up considering how much we shared with a guy we looked at as a brother, but you’re really not going to make a huge fuss about it at the time and be as classless as her.
  • Several band changes had taken place once more; Tripp Eisen was fired from the group and joined industrial metal band Static-X, so Virus, a guitarist/producer from New York City who was originally hired for bass, replaced him on guitar in 2000.
  • After the release of their first live album, the band announced that they will be releasing their long-awaited album “Blood Money, Part 1” in the fall of 2016, also stating that the second part of “Blood Money” would not see such lengthy delays as Part 1 did.
  • The pair then recruited Sloane Jentry as guitarist, Preston Nash as drummer, and Tripp Eisen as bassist.
  • But you know I guess anyone will make shocking claims to use as a pedestal to push their own agenda and his solo project for that “cash grab”.
  • This previous reason is actually the EXACT reason this tribute is happening.

He’s also heavily involved with fellow industrial metal band Static-X. Edsel Dope has been releasing the songs off “Blood Money Part Zer0” one track at a time over the past several months. He’s also been offering the album for free download via the band’s website at DopeTheBand.com.

In a recent interview with BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Edsel talked about the unique position of fronting STATIC-X in place of deceased vocalist/guitarist Wayne Static while trying to remain faceless. “When it came time to put it on stage and take it on tour, it was, ‘There should never be another singer of Static-X that’s a person.” On December 7, 2022, Dope released the “Best Of Me” EP, featuring 4 songs. Dope has released a video to go along with the second single on the album, “6-6-Sick”. On July 29, 2008, Dope released American Apathy Reloaded—a CD of remixes and alternate versions of songs from American Apathy, plus a live DVD. Dope has finished their spring tour of the United States, the tour, which took place over two months, included 22 dates.

  • However, in an interview with Dee J. Nelson, it was said that the release will take place in the summer.
  • Unlike many of the popular bands from the 1990s, Dope derived their sound from influences taken from heavy metal bands and fused that with the sound of industrial rock acts who had made waves earlier in the decade, such as Ministry and Skinny Puppy.
  • He also touched on his relationship with the late Static-X frontman Wayne Static and touring with Static when he was going solo in the mid-2010s.
  • On July 29, 2008, Dope released American Apathy Reloaded—a CD of remixes and alternate versions of songs from American Apathy, plus a live DVD.

Wayne put himself in this position and tried painting Tony out to be the bad guy. What Frankie was around for was the actual “cash grab” where Wayne tried to dupe the fans by renaming his solo project Static-X because the solo act wasn’t doing too well. Tony was busy working on other things and terms were agreed upon for Wayne to use the name. I don’t remember this guy at a single one of our shows and Emmure wasn’t picking up steam till after Tony + Wayne had their split. Back in October 2019, a photo was posted online clearly showing that Dope and Xer0 shared the same neck tattoo.

Felons and Revolutionaries was created after performing on the New York City club circuit, and releasing several promotional cassettes5 the band was signed by Epic Records. For the album’s recording, Sloane Jentry had left the band and Tripp Eisen moved to guitar, while Acey Slade was brought in on bass. The album featured fourteen tracks including two covers, which were; “Fuck tha Police” by N.W.A and “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” by English new wave band Dead or Alive, which featured in the movie American Psycho. “Debonaire” was also featured on the Scream 3 movie soundtrack and the first The Fast and the Furious movie during the police raid on Johnny Tran’s house scene. If he wants to continue touring under the flag he has every right to do so.

This was something that really didn’t come into play until Tera came into the fold. No one really goes into the fact that the prescription meds that Wayne was on weren’t Wayne’s. Tera got Wayne hooked on medication prescribed to her and ultimately those mixed with booze is what killed my friend. This leads us to now, where Eric Dinkelmann, who has a long-standing relationship with various incarnations of the band—including their current reunion lineup—has taken to social media to address the matter. Static-X‘s decision to reunite without their late frontman Wayne Static remains a controversial topic given not only his iconic presence to the group itself, but the complicated relationship between Wayne and bassist Tony Campos.

PRIMAL FEAR Unveils ‘The Hunter’ Single From Upcoming ‘Domination’ Album

Of course, it’s not a full-on reunion since Wayne Static passed away in 2014. Nonetheless, this new iteration of the band was embraced by the fans, including the mysterious new masked frontman Xer0. Dope released the official music video for the two-part album’s title track “Blood Money” on July 16, 2016. The band released the second single on the album entitled “Hold On” on August 26, 2016, as well as the official music video. Blood Money part 1 was officially released worldwide on October 28, 2016, via eOne Entertainment. The two singles from Life; “Now or Never” and “Slipping Away” reached No. 28 and No. 29 on the Mainstream Rock charts respectively.

The Thermometer would display the overall progress in reaching various fundraiser goals such as the release of the live DVD and making it to United Kingdom and Europe for a tour. After the relative success of their debut album, Dope decided to record a follow-up entitled Life. Several band changes had taken place once more; Tripp Eisen was fired from the group and joined industrial metal band Static-X, so Virus, a guitarist/producer from New York City who was originally hired for bass, replaced him on guitar in 2000. Acey Slade was moved to the position of guitar, while Sloane Jentry (who had remained friends with the band) rejoined, this time on bass. However, he was busy recording the album Mechanical Animals at the time. Lead singer Edsel has also maintained a good friendship with ex-Manson guitarist Daisy Berkowitz.

This reunion tour had guitarist Virus, drummer Racci Shay, and bassist Acey Slade return for the occasion. Disappointed with the label’s perceived lack of promotion for the album, the band left Epic Records.8 The band signed with Recon Records, which was later bought out by Artemis Records, a New York independent record label.910 Dope’s third studio album was titled Group Therapy. A song from that album, Today is the Day served as the official theme song for WWE’s pay-per-view event No Mercy 2003 in October. “Debonaire” from the first album was used in the movie The Fast and the Furious. More soundtrack work was done by Dope in 2002, as the band recorded WWE chairman Vince McMahon’s theme song “No Chance” for the WWF Forceable Entry audio release. Dope’s music had previously been used as the background theme in ECW, and Rhino also used “Debonaire” as his entrance theme.

Tripp Lee played live on bass with the band (although Brix is still listed, and seems doubtful that he will return) and a new drummer named Angel Bartolotta, formerly of Pig and The Genitorturers has joined. Switching gears to Edsel Dope’s involvement with Static-X and his hesitance to say whether he’s the band’s mystery tour singer, Xer0, Edsel says his privacy is about respecting the brand of the band. The reason none of the original crew or band members were at the memorial was because Tera banned us all from attending. Pretty fucked up considering how much we shared with a guy we looked at as a brother, but you’re really not going to make a huge fuss about it at the time and be as classless as her. We all cried and went through severe levels of depression when he passed.

Edsel Dope: In-Depth Interview on Dope, Static-X and More

On the September 19, 2013, the band officially released a teaser for the song “Drug Music” from their upcoming sixth studio album, entitled “Blood Money” via their Facebook page. However, in an interview with Dee J. Nelson, it was said that the release will take place in the summer. The music video for the album’s first single “Selfish” was released on August 26, 2014, as frontman Edsel Dope announced that Blood Money will be a two-part album. In 2015, Dope announced the dates for the “Die Mother Fucker Die” reunion tour, featuring the classic lineup of Edsel Dope, Virus, Acey Slade, and Racci Shay. Dope also recorded their very first live album in Moscow which featured the four long time friends and bandmates.

The album itself reached No. 180 on the Billboard charts and No. 6 on the Top Heatseekers, which up until that point was the band’s highest charting. After the album’s release, Simon Dope left the group to pursue a career as a video game producer. The band was founded in 1997 by songwriter and lead vocalist Edsel Dope.
